Hey friends! Did you know that in Spanish grammar there’s something called a compound tense?
It’s a verb form that combines “haber” (to have) with the past participle of the main verb.
With this awesome construction, we can express completed or ongoing actions and states in a super detailed way, pinpointing when and for how long something happened.
Compound tenses give us a whole new level of nuance and specificity compared to simple tenses.
And there are some really cool compound tenses in Spanish that are widely used such as:
Indicative Mood:
Pluperfect Past (Pluperfect): “Yo había hablado” (I had spoken)
Compound Perfect Past (Present Perfect): “Yo he hablado” (I have spoken)
Compound Future (Future Perfect): “Yo habré hablado” (I will have spoken)
Subjunctive Mood:
Pretérito perfecto compuesto (Present Perfect): “Yo haya hablado” (I have spoken)
