In Spanish, poner is a super important verb that serves as the foundation for lots of other verbs formed by adding a prefix. It’s cool because these new verbs keep the irregularities of poner.
I’m excited to delve deeper into this and give you examples to show how these verbs are used in Spanish! Let’s check out a few!
1. Componer – To compose
Ella compone música hermosa.
She composes beautiful music.
2. Disponer – To arrange, to set up, to organize
¿Cómo quieres disponer los muebles en la sala?
How do you want to arrange the furniture in the living room?
3. Exponer –
a. To exhibit
El artista va a exponer sus pinturas en la galería.
The artist is going to exhibit his paintings in the gallery.
b. To expose
Juan expone mucho a sus hijos en las redes sociales.
Pepe exposes his children a lot on social media.
4. Imponer – To impose
El jefe impone reglas estrictas en la oficina.
The boss imposes strict rules in the office.
5. Proponer – To propose
Propongo un plan para el fin de semana.
I propose a plan for the weekend.
6. Reponer – To replenish, to restock
Tienes que reponer las mercancías en la tienda.
You have to replenish the goods in the store.
7. Suponer – To assume
No puedo suponer lo que va a pasar en el futuro.
I can’t assume what will happen in the future.
